'Don't Look Up' Sets a New Weekly Viewing Record on Netflix

It falls just behind Birdbox and Red Notice.

The climate change satire Don't Look Up, directed by Adam McKay, has set a new Netflix record for the most viewing hours in a single week.

According to the streamer, the film's 152.29 million hours watched globally in the week of December 27 to January 2 set a new high watermark.

According to Netflix, the Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence starrer has already surpassed Bird Box and Red Notice as the third most-watched film of all time (in its first 28 days).

While Netflix does not release day-to-day data, Don't Look Up is likely to be catching up to Sandra Bullock's film, and could soon overtake the Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds crime caper for the all-time record.
Director McKay tweeted yesterday that he was "straight up shocked" by the film's watching statistics.

Despite polarizing critics and audiences, the film has clearly captured the zeitgeist and brought climate change back into the spotlight.

Netflix also disclosed that Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut The Lost Daughter was third on its list of most-viewed English-language films for the week, with 18.26 million hours viewed, in its most recent wave of statistics.

Meanwhile, with 15.21 million hours viewed between December 27 and January 2, César Rodrigues' Brazilian drama Lulli was the most-watched non-English film.
