Following Virgil Abloh's death on November 28th, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an electric concept version of their Mercedes-Maybach luxury vehicle, which was designed in partnership with the fashion legend.

After speaking with Abloh's family, the car brand unveiled Project MAYBACH by displaying the vehicle at the Rubell Museum in Miami, Florida, as a homage to the designer.

The Mercedes-Maybach display car demonstrates future design possibilities and is the outcome of an ongoing collaboration with the multidisciplinary artist, architect, creative director, fashion designer, and philanthropist; driven by a mutual passion to enrich the luxury design debate.

“Now opening the world of our collaboration, and Virgil’s unique vision, to the public we want to respectfully celebrate the work of a truly unique design talent, who created endless possibilities for collaboration through his unbridled imagination and inspired all that knew his work,” the firm says in a statement.

Every piece of Project MAYBACH has been built from the ground up, making it unlike anything ever developed by Mercedes-Benz.

Abloh and Gorden Wagener collaborated to create a new design language that translated Mercedes-luxury Maybach's character and pushed the frontiers of function, aesthetics, and collaborative creation.

The two-seater battery-electric off-road coupé features massive Gran Turismo dimensions, enormous off-road wheels, and unique attachments.

Solar cells, for example, are hidden beneath the transparent surface of the display car's front bonnet, extending the Project MAYBACH's anticipated range despite the car's length of over six meters and built for outdoor adventure.
