I Know What You Did Last Summer series reboot is out now on Amazon Prime Video

A must-see TV series that reboots a classic horror property has just been released on streaming. I Know What You Did Last Summer, a reworking of the 1997 slasher/mystery thriller starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillipe, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, was released on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, October 15th.

The TV show is based on the same plot as the original film. A group of teenage friends are hounded by a mysterious killer who claims to know what they did a year after covering up a vehicle accident that resulted in their killing someone. Despite the plot similarities, the new I Know What You Did Last Summer is not a pure remake, as the show's characters, setting, and twists are all distinct from the film.

The show stars Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, and Sebastian Amoruso as five teenagers who must deal with the deadly consequences of their actions on the night of their high school graduation on a Hawaiian island (rather than Southport, North Carolina, as in the first film). The show is produced by horror director James Wan under his Atomic Monster imprint and is based on the original novel by Lois Duncan.

The TV show is the fourth installment in the I Know series. The 1997 film was so successful that it spawned a sequel the following year, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which reunited Hewitt and Prinze. Eight years later, in 2006, a third film, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, was released. This direct-to-DVD release had an entirely new cast.

The series has received mostly excellent reviews, so horror aficionados should check out I Know What You Did Last Summer on Amazon Prime right now. Today marks the release of the first four episodes of the eight-part series on the site. On Fridays, new episodes are released.
