Ganiel Krishnan has stepped down as Miss World Philippines 2nd Princess 2021.
Ganiel announced her resignation from the MWP group in a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 5, in order to focus on her profession as an ABS-CBN reporter.
“As you are aware, I had a successful job as a lifestyle and entertainment news reporter in ABS-CBN before entering the competition and have never hidden my plans to return to it, regardless of the outcome of the pageant,” she wrote.
She went on, " "While I am profoundly thrilled to have been selected a Princess in this year's MWP quest, I am unable to serve two masters due to contractual commitments with the network.
"Realizing this [caused] me to decide to pursue a goal that will have a bigger influence on really assisting my fellow Filipinos, which is broadcasting.”
Ganiel then praised the MWP Organization for providing “wonderful experiences” to the pageant contestants and wished her “queen sisters the best of luck in their different efforts in the future.”
She also stated that her participation in MWP 2021 will be her final venture into the realm of pageantry. “It was a huge learning experience for me, and I believe it will help me achieve even greater success in the future.”
MWP national director Arnold Vegafria said in a statement to GMA News Online that they accept Ganiel's choice to surrender her position "to restart and concentrate her profession as a journalist."
Janelle Lewis of Angeles City, Pampanga, will take Ganiel's position.
Ganiel was named second princess in the pageant, which took place on October 3rd. Miss World Philippines 2021 is Tracy Maureen Perez.
