Audible is bringing Kevin Hart and Charlamagne Tha God to the platform. SBH Productions, the duo's new audio production firm, said on Monday (February 7) that in 2022, they will release five new original projects to the audiobook platform.
“SBH has the opportunity to be a driving force and new creative outlet for our culture,” Kevin Hart said in a press release. “This vertical allows us to bring the voices of our community masses and to share our rich stories that run deep in our souls. I am excited to partner with Charlamagne… and the whole SBH team to bring these rich stories to the Audible original space.”
Finding Tamika, an Audible original that deconstructs why the media fails to adequately report murdered or missing Black women, will be the duo's debut effort. Short, Black, and Handsome, a scripted comedy starring the SBH leaders as two fathers who become business partners, is set to debut on March 3 and will be followed by multiple productions throughout the year.
“SBH and Audible are at the forefront of the audio renaissance, often times TV and film companies don’t SEE the vision for these great stories by black creatives so they are hard to get made,” said Charlamagne Tha God in a statement. “What… Kevin and myself along with the rest of team at SBH have built is a space for these companies and the whole world to HEAR our vision. We thank GOD for it all!”
Kevin Hart will also co-create an animated HBO Max series titled Storytown, according to Deadline, which broke the news on Friday (February 4). The musically based adult animation series about a troubled child and his grandfather, who employs rap fairytale narratives to teach him some of life's most important lessons.
