Britney Spears’ dad, Jamie Spears, is now finally taken out from his controversial role as Britney’s guardian. He was removed on Wednesday by a Los Angeles judge, which officially ended the long arduous legal battle.
Jamie Spears was suspended immediately and replaced with a temporary conservator. He was replaced by someone who has the singer’s best interests at heart. According to Judge Brenda Penny, this arrangement is untenable.
Jamie Spears is also ordered to return all conservatorship assets in his keeping.
Jamie Spears has controlled her life for thirteen years. The 39 year old singer claimed that this arrangement is abusive and recently spoke up about the battle she is going through.
The move is a product of a years-long campaign that is very public. In fact, documentaries last week featuring allegations of Jamie Spears’ control of his daughter were released.
Supporters crowded outside the courtroom in support of Britney carrying slogans with “Free Britney” and “Jail Jamie”. Her supporters also showed their support through social media, speaking up in support of Britney.
Matthew Rosengart, Britney’s lawyer, said that her father is a cruel, toxic, and abusive man. He claimed that Britney deserves to wake up and not have her father as a conservator anymore. "It is what my client wants, it is what my client needs, it is what my client deserves." he said powerfully.
Britney Spears’ fiance Sam Asghari reacted to the ruling by posting on Instagram with the caption” FREE BRITNEY! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!”.
Matthew Rosengart claimed that "Every day that goes by with him as conservator -- every day and every hour -- is one in which he causes his daughter anguish and pain." in a motion that was filed this week.
Allegedly, Jamie Spears had surveillance devices to record Britney’s conversations. This was shown in the New York Times documentary that was shown last Friday. It really reminds one of a prison.
Matthew Rosengart said that these allegations show an invasion of Britney’s privacy.
In the month of July, Spears was successful in appointing her own lawyer and last month her father had a petition filed for the conservatorship to stop.
The judge has John Zabel appointed as a temporary conservator of the estate which can last until the end of the year.
Britney’s father was accused of delaying the end of the conservatorship to keep the money.
They said that this is "a subterfuge, designed to avoid the stigma of being suspended and its consequences, including the likelihood of disgorgement and rejection of outstanding legal fees," said the petition.
Supporters and lawyers have actually been accusing Jamie Spears of getting money out of the guardianship. This guardianship was set up in 2007 when Britney had a highly public breakdown where she attacked a car of a paparazzi at a gas station.
The lawyers claimed that her father was never fit to be her guardian due to his alcoholism and trauma caused to her daughter since childhood.
