Tom Hanks Comedy Film To Start Filming in Pennsylvania Next Month

STX International also has acquired international sales rights to 'A Man Called Otto.'

According to Deadlin, the filming on location in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for Tom Hanks' comedy A Man Called Otto will begin next month.

Prior to the virtual EFM, STX International has acquired international sales rights to the hot project, while CAA Media Finance will handle domestic sales alongside Lichter Grossman Nichols Adler Feldman Clark.

Mariana Trevio (Overboard), Rachel Keller (Legion), and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Legion) join Oscar winner Tom Hanks in the comic version of the Scandinavian smash A Man Called Ove (6 Underground).

Marc Forster will helm the SF Studios film, which is based on the Fredrik Backman original and written and directed by Hannes Holm, as we reported earlier this month. The title character has been renamed to reflect the location in the United States.

Otto (Hanks), a grouchy solitary widower with firm ideals, precise habits, and a short fuse, gives everyone in his neighborhood a hard time while watching over it like a hawk, will star in the film. Just when he thinks he's given up on life, he forms an odd and reluctant connection with his new neighbors. Otto undergoes a slight alteration over time...but is he truly capable of change?

David Magee (Life of Pi), a two-time Oscar contender, wrote the new script and will also executive produce. Following their successful cooperation on the blockbuster Finding Neverland, the couple reunite for the first time in A Man Called Otto.

The film is produced by SF Studios' Fredrik Wikström Nicastro (A Man Called Ove), Rita Wilson (Mamma Mia! ), and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Marc Forster and Renée Wolfe's production company 2DUX2 will serve as executive producers (World War Z). The project is entirely funded by SF Studios.

WME represents Forster. CAA represents Hanks.
