Nicolas Cage is "Dracula" in Renfield

It will be a Nicolas vs. Nicholas bloodbath in Universal Pictures' newest movie, "Renfield".

Almost everybody knows Nicolas Cage. He has been a household name since 1995 when he won the Academy Award for Best Actor after playing Ben Sanderson in the movie, "Leaving Las Vegas." However, his recent roles and career decisions have shown him to be straying further and further from the traditional studio backed-up filmmaking and into the territory of indie cinema.

That all changed when he recently signed a deal with Universal Pictures' monster movie Renfield to play the bitingly charismatic role of Dracula. Nicholas Hoult, of the X-Men franchise fame, will be starring as the titular character. Renfield is Dracula's infamous devotee and henchman and his story as Dracula's assistant will be the story of the movie. The feature film will be directed by Chris McKay, the brilliant leader behind Amazon's "The Tomorrow War" and "The Lego Batman Movie". Aside from being the movie's director, McKay will also be producing it along with Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst. Samantha Nisenboim is the the executive producer.

Renfield was first introduced in Bram Stoker's 1987 classic novel, "Dracula" as a patient in an asylum obsessed with drinking blood, blindly believing that by doing this, he will discover immortality. He is at the beck and call of Dracula (who is the perfect epitome of what a toxic boss is) who not only makes him eat rats and insects but he also baits him with everlasting life.

There is no report yet on how the movie will portray the relationship and dynamics between the characters. The only thing reported now is that it will be a modern-day adventure story sprinkled with comedic tones.

Script based on the original story outline crafted by Kirkman will be written by Ryan Ridley who is more famously known for "Rick and Morty" and "Ghosted".

During the 80s, Nicolas Cage showcased his acting prowess through his roles in "Raising Arizona" and "Moonstruck" before he was awarded an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 1995's "Leaving Las Vegas". Since then, he has become one of the biggest movie stars in the world.

2011's "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" was his last major studio film. After that, he has nabbed roles in many indie films, many of which are largely eccentric and some are just point-blank cryptic.

Earlier this year, the actor's impending comeback and resurgence became inevitable when Lionsgate was revealed to be producing "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" where Nicolas Cage plays an actor named, ironically, Nic Cage who is trying to traverse through studio and indie filmmaking while also being employed as a CIA nark entrenced in a drug lord's jungle of a compound. Slated to be released in April 2022, the movie is currently in its test screening phase and buzz about the movie has been going around in executive circles for months now, with almost all of reportedly saying that it is a big shift for both the studio and the actor.

It is not the first time Nicolas Cage has acted as blood-sucking individual. In the 1989 cult-horror comedy, he played a literary who was bitten and turned into a vampire.
