The process of picking Greece's next Eurovision act has become one of the season's hottest races in recent weeks, similar to Cyprus' tender for Eurovision 2021 last summer. The next level of preparations has begun, with ERT seeking to pick their next entry by the end of 2021!
There is considerable excitement at ERT offices, according to Eurovision Fun, as the broadcaster's internal selection process continues. According to the website, 25 suggestions (40 songs) were submitted in response to ERT's open appeal to record labels.
The next round of preparations will begin next week, now that the bids have been received.
The broadcaster's gathered committee is likely to select three or four songs from the 40 submitted.
The creators of these songs will be asked to explore their suggestions in further depth.
According to the article, ERT want to choose their Eurovision 2022 entry before the end of the year, allowing them more time to prepare and advertise ahead of Turin.
Following their highest finish at Eurovision since 2013, Greece's ERT was rumored earlier this year to begin preparations for next year's event in October. After confirming their participation, the broadcaster issued a request for ideas from record companies in September.
Since then, it has been reported that the following musicians are among the 25 who have submitted suggestions to the broadcaster:
Amanda Tenfjord (also known as Amanda Georgiadi) (Fokas Evangelinos collaborator)
Kozas, Elias (Greece 2013)
Evangelina (Panik Records' suggestion)
Excellent work, Nicky. (With assistance from Fokas Evangelinos)
Joanne's (The Voice of Greece S7 winner)
Christoforou, Konstantinos (Cyprus 1996, 2002, 2005)
Although Kalomira (Eurovision 2008) was expected to enter, it has just been revealed that she did not follow through on her submission to ERT. Her return trip, though, may not be done just yet, given her prior engagement in discussions to represent Cyprus.
