Following weeks of uncertainty, the 66th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Turin (or Torino), Italy, according to the contest's social media and website.

"The Italian city of Turin has won the competition to become the Host City of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, triumphing over 16 other rival bids," according to the website.

The 2006 Winter Olympics host city beat out 16 Italian towns, including 2026 Winter Olympic host city Milan, Bologna, Italy's capital Rome, and Florence.

Eurovision will be held in the Pala Alpitour, better known as the PalaOlimpico, which hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics' ice hockey competition. The event will take place on May 10, 12, and 14, 2022.

"Turin is the ideal host city for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest," contest executive director Martin sterdahl said. "As we witnessed during the Winter Olympics in 2006, PalaOlimpico meets all of the prerequisites for staging a worldwide event of this size, and we have been very impressed with the passion and dedication of the City of Turin, which will welcome thousands of fans next May."

According to Carlo Fuortes, chief executive officer of Italian broadcaster Radiotelevisione Italiana (Rai), the broadcaster is pleased with Turin's pick.

"We are delighted that Turin will host the next Eurovision Song Contest, the worldwide festival enjoyed by a big audience in every country," he said. "The decision taken by Rai, in collaboration with the EBU [European Broadcasting Union], was not easy, given the extremely high quality of the bids presented by the competing towns, whom I congratulate for their passionate involvement. From now, Rai and the city of Turin embark on an exciting journey that will take us until May 2022. A significant issue for Rai and our country."

"Hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin is both a tremendous honor and a terrific outcome for our city and our country," Turin mayor Chiara Appendino said. "Turin will be a stage for music and culture after kicking off a new season of outstanding events, in a vibrant and inclusive international event that will include the entire city.

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to represent Italy in front of such a broad audience, and we are already planning to welcome guests from all across Europe. We shall, as usual, be prepared."

After Naples in 1965 and Rome in 1991, Turin is the third Italian city to hold the yearly music competition.

After winning this year's version in the Netherlands in May, rock band Mneskin won the opportunity to headline next year's performance in Italy.
