Jesy Nelson opened up about her suicide attempt

The former Little Mix member shared her struggles and mental health issues she's experiencing

Mental health care is a matter of self-love, and suicide attempts should be taken seriously as a cry for help. The former Little Mix member, Jesy Nelson has bravely shared her story of a previous suicide attempt in order to help others.

Her decision to leave the globally renowned girlband after almost ten years was personal, according to the 29-year-old ex-Little Mix singer.

Fans were shocked by Jesy's decision at the time, but they had no idea how hard it had been for her ever since.

A recent interview with Jesy has revealed her struggle with depression while in Little Mix, including the fact that she had to perform in front of cameras one week after attempting suicide due to the band's pressing need to make a music video.

During Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast, Jesy talked openly about her struggles with mental health issues.

Her distraught mother asked her to leave the band for her own good, the singer revealed after her suicide attempt.

After only seven days away from recording, Jesy was right back to work on the song video.

It was evident to me that I'd taken an overdose the first time," Jesy said. After being admitted to the hospital, I had a music video ready in about a week. As a result, my mother was understandably upset, and she said bluntly: "This is it, you're not doing this anymore." In part because my mother is the type to tell me, 'We could care less what you do as long as you're happy.' "No," she said emphatically. This is no longer the case. As long as I'm not putting my foot down, you'll be okay. In addition, I was clueless because Little Mix was still in its infancy at the time.'

It was Jesy's BBC documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, in which she first talked about the difficult time in her life.

Once the documentary revealed her downward spiral in mental health due to years of harassment and social media abuse, she was honored with a BAFTA.

She confessed that being continuously compared to and comparing herself to Perrie, Leigh-Anne, and Jade made her miserable and irritated during her time in Little Mix, and that's why she left.

In spite of her anxieties about launching a solo career, Jesy has taken solace in the fact that she no longer has to worry about whether or not other girls think she appears "large" in comparison to them.

Concerning her insecurities, Jesy admitted to Fearne that she "will never sit and lie and be like, oh, I'm so happy now, I don't have any."

Despite this, I still have my doubts and fears.

"I believe the thing that I'm better at now is that when I film a music video, I don't look at the camera and think, oh my God, I don't appear to be as slender as Jade, Anne, and Perrie."

And that's what I did each and every day, and I actually enjoyed filming my music video for the first time. I was blown away by it and thought, "This is the emotion I should have felt the whole time." It had its detractors and its supporters, and that's fine with me. Having the three of them around at a time when I was depressed was also not nice; they were living their dream while I was not, and it made me feel bad about them.

That wasn't right, I realized. I felt sad and confined.

It's a good thing that Jesy is finally at peace with herself and creating the music she's always wanted to.
