Georgia's official broadcaster, GPB, has confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022. They have yet to clarify their method of artist selection, having chosen their previous two participants via Georgian Idol.
Georgia has confirmed to ESCToday that it will compete in Eurovision 2022, which will be held in Italy. The method of selection has yet to be determined, but the broadcaster intends to make an announcement in the coming months.
Georgia has previously chosen its entries through both national finals and internal choices. The Georgian entrant was chosen through Georgian Idol in 2019 and 2020, while the last two songs were chosen internally.
Tornike Kipiani won Georgian Idol last year, earning the chance to represent Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020. “Take Me As I Am” would have been his entry for the 2020 competition. Due to the cancellation of the contest, he was re-selected to represent Georgia in this year's competition.
The self-penned "You" was released as his submission for the 2021 contest back in March. Tornike finished 16th in the second semi-final with 16 points in Rotterdam. Georgia was eliminated for the fourth time in a row, with its most recent qualification coming in 2016 with Nika Kocharov Young Georgian Lolitaz.
