'Drive My Car' Labeled As Best Picture by Toronto Film Critics Association

This film continues to gain recognition and bring home awards.

Drive My Car was chosen the best picture of 2021 by the Toronto Film Critics Association, as Ryusuke Hamaguchi's gloomy drama about love and loss continued its buzzy ascension as an award season contender.

After competing in Cannes, Drive My Car was also named best international feature and best script on Sunday. Jane Campion won the award for best director for her period western The Power of the Dog.

In Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Lost Daughter, Olivia Colman won best actress for her portrayal of a divorced academic whose contact with a vacationing family on a Greek island brings back painful memories of her own parenting decisions in the adaptation of the 2006 Elena Ferrante novel.

Jessie Buckley won best supporting actress for her role as a younger version of Colman's character in Netflix's The Lost Daughter, and Gyllenhaal won best first feature.

Denzel Washington won best actor for his portrayal opposite Frances McDormand in Joel Coen's The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Bradley Cooper won best supporting actor for his turn in Paul Thomas Anderson's 1970s-set Licorice Pizza.

And filmmaker Jonas Poher Rasmussen's Oscar submission Flee was voted best animated feature, while Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson's directing debut Summer of Soul was chosen best documentary of 2021.
