Kanye West has amassed a slew of awards throughout the course of his illustrious career, which spans more than two decades. According to Chart Data, Ye's "Hurricane," featuring The Weeknd and Lil Baby, became his first platinum song from Donda on Tuesday (January 11).
Before arriving at its final destination, "Hurricane" took on many different incarnations over the years. With a more stripped-down sound and a chorus from crooner Ant Clemons, the song was initially scheduled for the shelved 2018 Yandhi album under the title "80 Degrees."
After Kanye referred to him as his favorite rapper, Lil Baby joined the tune, followed by The Weeknd just before Donda's release in August. "Hurricane" quickly became the album's most popular hit, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Kanye West's powerful "Jail" starring JAY-Z went gold on January 11, but that wasn't the only award he earned. Outside of the Donda realm, Yeezy's remix of Chief Keef's "Don't Like" song from 2012's Cruel Summer, which featured Pusha T, Big Sean, and Jadakiss, also received a platinum plaque.
Other Donda singles "Off the Grid," "Moon," and "Praise God" all went gold in November, and the album has sold over 500,000 copies, with a platinum plaque on the way. After re-entering the Billboard 200 this week, older Kanye albums The College Dropout and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy received a bump as well.
Mr. West was awarded his first diamond plaque in October for his 2007 Graduation smash "Stronger."
