"CLB" is the first rap album to reach this milestone in 2021.
Drake has reached a moment in his career where whatever music he releases will receive millions of streams, regardless of quality or production value. While he makes it appear effortless, only a few artists achieve this level of success.
Last summer, Drake demonstrated this by releasing his studio album Certified Lover Boy just days after Kanye West's Donda. Despite the fact that they were both the most anticipated albums of the year and dominated the charts, Drake's album just performed better.
CLB remained at No. 1 and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 list for over two months following its release, after debuting at No. 1. CLB was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) within a month of its release.
Less than a year later, the album has doubled its success, earning 2x Platinum certification. "@Drake's 'Certified Lover Boy' has now sold over 2 million total units in the US, making it the only 2021 rap album to reach this milestone," according to Chart Data.
According to Billboard, The Kid LAROI's project F**k Love is the only other rap album from 2021 in the top ten in terms of sales. While albums by Kanye West, J. Cole, Tyler, the Creator, Vince Staples, and many more prominent hip-hop personalities were released in 2021, pop singers like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and Adele still outsold the majority of them in terms of sales.
