Leadership in Universal Studios Set To Change in 2022

Changes in Universal Studios' leadership will come into force in January

Effective January 1, 2022, Universal Studios will be shaking up their leadership. First off, current President of Universal Creative and Vice Chairman Mark Woodbury will now become Chairman and CEO of Universal Parks Resort following the retirement of CEO Tom Williams.

Universal Studios Hollywood president Karen Irwin will be the new President of Universal Orlando, after the company announced that Universal Orlando's current president, Bill Davis, is retiring after 15 years of service. Irwin initially began her career with Universal in Orlando. She was the brains behind the development and opening of The Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash at the Hollywood park. The success of the project led it to be named as an Outstanding Achievement - Attraction by the Themed Entertainment Association.

Tom Mehrmann, who is serving currently as the President of Universal Beijing Resort, will now take on the newly created role as President, Pacific Rim, Universal Parks Resorts. He will be in charge of Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, and Universal Beijing Resort.

Both Irwin and Mehrmann will be part of Woodbury's executive team. Alongside them who will also be reporting to Mehrmann as business leaders are Scott Strobl, the current Senior Vice President for Operations at Universal Studios Hollywood, J.L. Bonner who is the current President of Universal Studios Japan, and Joe Hoskin serving as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Beijing Resort.

Other executive leadership promotions and changes include Alice Norsworthy, the current Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Universal Parks Resorts, who will now become its President of Global Marketing. Page Thompson will now take on a new role as President of UPR New Ventures after serving as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Universal Parks Resorts. Thompson was one of the leaders in the development of Universal Beijing Resort and helped in continuing the growth of Universal Studios Japan.

Lastly, Michael Hightower will become the President of Universal Creative after his stint as the Senior Vice President and Executive Project Director for Universal Parks Resorts. He will be spearheading and take control of the design and creation  of all Universal ride experiences worldwide.
