No Hard Feelings, an R-rated Comedy Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Has Signed a Deal with Sony Pictures

Jennifer Lawrence will star in an R-rated comedy film to be released by Sony Pictures.

With the acquisition of "No Hard Feelings," Sony Pictures will release an R-rated comedy starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Director Gene Stupnitsky, who worked with Lawrence on NBC's "The Office," will take the helm. "Good Boys," Stupnitsky's first feature-length film as a filmmaker, will be released in 2019. It will be followed by "No Hard Feelings." Stupnitsky was a co-writer on "No Hard Feelings" with John Phillips.

The movie "No Hard Feelings" is set in Montauk, New York, a little village on Long Island. Stupnitsky worked with Tom Cruise as an executive producer and writer on the R-rated comedies "Risky Business" (1983) and "Bad Teacher" (2011). Streamers and big studios, including Universal Pictures, which distributes Stupnitsky's "Good Boys" picture, competed with Sony Pictures for the project. "No Hard Feelings" was bought by the company with the intention of distributing it only in theaters. No one knows how much the project ultimately cost. Alex Saks, Marc Provissiero, Naomi Odenkirk, Justine Polsky, and Lawrence collaborated on the production of "No Hard Feelings." The creative direction of the project is in the hands of executive producer Phillips.

In fact, this new endeavor is just one of several on Lawrence's plate in the near future. Following the release of "Dark Phoenix" in 2019, Lawrence took a break from acting before returning to Netflix this holiday season in Adam McKay's ensemble comedy "Don't Look Up," which he directed. In addition to Lawrence, the film also stars Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep. Lawrence will next be seen in the Paolo Sorrentino-directed film "Mob Girl" and in the film "Bad Blood," in which she will reprise her role as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.

In addition to LBI Entertainment, Lawrence is represented by Hansen Jacobson. WME and Mosaic are both in charge of Stupnitsky's career. UTA, Underground, and Schreck Rose are all involved in Phillips' career.

The deal was initially reported by Deadline.
