The Montenegrin national broadcaster, RTCG, has announced to ESCToday that Montenegro will compete in the next Eurovision Song Contest in Italy in 2022.
Montenegro now joins the list of nations that have confirmed their participation in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Turin next year.
Fans of Eurovision will be pleased to learn that the Balkan country will return to the competition next year after a two-year hiatus. In 2020, the country withdrew from the tournament.
More information on Montenegro's Eurovision participation in 2022, as well as the method it will utilize to choose its Eurovision entry and performer, will be released in due course.
Montenegro debuted as a standalone nation at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 with Stefan Faddy and has yet to win the competition. With Knez's Balkan ballad Adio, the nation scored its highest results in the event in 2015.
The former Yugoslav country has only been in the Eurovision Grand Final twice, in 2014 and 2015. Eleven times, the Balkan country has competed in Europe's favorite television show.
Montenegro chose its Eurovision hopeful and entry for Tel Aviv in 2019 through its customary national final Montevizija. D Mol were declared Montevizija 2019 champions and received the golden ticket to Israel for their entrance Heaven. Despite a strong showing, Montenegro failed to qualify for the Grand Final for the fourth year in a row.
