Jérémie Makiese will represent Belgium in 2022. Now, the singer from Uccle will compete in one of the world's biggest music competitions.
A tradition in Belgium is to name their Eurovision representative first. VRT announced Sennek first for 2018 and Hooverphonic for 2020, so it's no surprise RTBF followed suit for 2022.
Jérémie grew up in Antwerp, Belgium. His family moved to Berchem-Sainte-Agathe when he was 6, then to Dilbeek a few years later, and finally to Uccle. It is a bilingual municipality in Brussels. Jérémie grew up speaking Dutch and French.
Jérémie is a musician. His mother sings and plays the tam-tam, and his father sang in a choir. After singing in church as a child, Jérémie began taking singing lessons at his local school. His father recognized Jérémie's talent and entered him in a school singing contest. Winning inspired Jérémie to join The Voice Belgique.
For his Blind Audition, Jérémie chose Labyrinth's Jealous. All four judges (including former Belgian Eurovision entrant Loc Nottet) stood up. Jérémie won the competition and continues to be mentored by BJ Scott. After winning the show, Jérémie decided to abandon his geology studies and focus on music and football. Jérémie is a fantastic goalkeeper who has just joined Excelsior Virton!
Then comes the Eurovision Song Contest, this time in Italy!
