Shakira, the pop star, claims she was attacked by a pair of wild boars while walking in a park in Barcelona with her eight-year-old son.

The Colombian singer claimed the animals attacked her before seizing her bag and fleeing into the woods with it.

On Wednesday, she shared her bizarre story in a series of Instagram stories.

"Look at how two wild boar who attacked me in the park have left my bag," she said, holding the now-recovered but torn bag up to the camera.

"They were taking my bag to the woods with my phone in it," the singer went on to say. "They've ruined everything."

She then turned to her son, Gerard Piqué, the father of Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué, and said: "Milan is telling the truth. Tell me about how your mother stood up to the wild boar."

Shakira is the most recent victim of the increasingly aggressive hogs that have invaded Catalonia's capital in recent years.

In 2016, Spanish police received 1,187 calls about wild hogs attacking dogs, raiding cat feeders, clogging streets, and running into cars in the city.

In 2013, a city police officer attempted to solve the problem on his own by shooting at a boar with his service revolver, but he missed and hit his partner instead.

Boars are among the world's most invasive species, capable of surviving in almost any environment and carrying a wide range of diseases. However, the animals are increasingly drawn to cities, where they feed on human waste.

Their numbers have exploded across Europe, with the most recent estimates putting the total at around 10 million.

Many cities have used a variety of strategies to reduce their numbers as they have become more aggressive and a nuisance. Thousands of animals have been killed by urban hunters in Berlin, but the problem persists.

Last year, police officers in Rome sparked outrage when they shot a family of wild boars with tranquilizer darts and administered lethal injections to them after they had wandered into a children's playground.
