Sony Confirms ‘A Man Called Otto’ For Christmas Release + Announces Release Dates For Upcoming Films

Check out which films to watch out soon!

As Deadline reported last week, Sony has made a number of release-date changes, including pulling the Jack Black comedy Oh Hell No off the schedule, setting the Sandra Oh horror film Umma for next month, and confirming the Tom Hanks-led adaptation A Man Called Otto for Christmas Day.

The studio also announced tonight that Naomi Ackie's Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody will debut two days earlier than expected, on December 21, and that Sam Raimi's Adam Driver-led sci-fi thriller 65 has been pushed back nearly a year to April 14, 2023. It had been set for this April 29.

The release date for Stage 6's Umma — Korean for "mother" — has been set for March 18, less than a month away. Amanda (Oh) and her daughter (Fivel Stewart) live a calm life on an American farm in this film by writer-director Iris K. Shim. However, when Amanda's estranged mother's remains arrive from Korea, she is haunted by the fear of becoming her own mother.

The film will be released on the same day as two other major releases: Lionsgate's family drama The Unbreakable Boy and A24's horror picture X.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody is directed by Kasi Lemmons and is based on a script by Anthony McCarten. It stars Stanley Tucci, Nafessa Williams, Clarke Peters, Tamara Tunie, and Ashton Sanders and is based on the life and career of hitmaker Houston. The musical biopic being bumped up to rival the untitled Illumination/Universal Mario Brothers film, which stars Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and others.

A Man Called Otto, a remake of the Swedish classic A Man Called Ove, is directed by Marc Foster and written by David Magee. Otto is played by Tom Hanks, a cranky and solitary widower who irritates everyone in his neighborhood while keeping a close eye on it. Just when he thinks he's given up on life, he forms an odd and reluctant connection with his new neighbors.

The comedy's competition is Paramount's 1920s-set Margot Robbie-Brad Pitt Babylon, which opens on December 25.

65 was written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Wood, with producer Sam Raimi. Ariana Greenblatt and Chloe Coleman also star in the film, which has a secret plot.

Oh Hell No stars Black as Sherman, a man who falls for Will's mother, who has just one response: "Oh hell no." Ice Cube was set to star alongside Scot Armstrong, Tracy Oliver, Jessica Gao, and Rodney Rothman in Kitao Sakurai's comedy.
