'Good Day America' Leads In Viewership During Olympics Week

It topped 'Today' in the number of total viewers!

ABC’s Good Morning America has been the top morning show in overall viewers for some time, but the network on Tuesday trumpeted its most recent weekly win — during the first week of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

According to Nielsen data supplied by ABC, GMA averaged 3.34 million viewers for the week of February 7, compared to 3.07 million for Today and 2.5 million for CBS Mornings.

When NBC televised the Olympics for the first time in more than 30 years, the network declared it was the first time in more than 30 years that GMA had a week of total viewers. NBC, on the other hand, noted that the difference between Today and GMA had narrowed from the previous week, and that the show still leads in a critical demographic for the season.

The Olympics have had a lower rating than in 2018, because to Covid restrictions and a diplomatic boycott by the United States in protest of Beijing's human rights concerns. Only Craig Melvin was sent to cover the morning show for NBC, which kept the most of its Today team in the United States.

Despite this, Today outperformed GMA in two important categories, though only by a little margin: in adults 25-54, Today averaged 852,000 viewers, while GMA averaged 848,000 and CBS Mornings averaged 503,000. Today averaged 589,000 viewers in the 18-49 demographic, compared to 551,000 for GMA and 363,000 for CBS Mornings.

To date, GMA has surpassed Today in total viewers with 3.36 million, compared to 3.24 million for Today. In the adult 25-54 age group, however, today has been the best day.
