The Batman, a highly anticipated film from Warner Bros/DC, has been approved for release in China. Although a release date has yet to be set, the permission is noteworthy given the lack of studio releases in the last year.

"Today, I have excellent news for you," Batman star Robert Pattinson said in a video posted to Warner Bros' Weibo account, while Zoe Kravitz added, "our new movie, The Batman, will be released in China." Colin Farrell and Paul Dano also appear in the video.

It will be interesting to observe if the approval from China implies a shift in direction from 2021 to 2022. The only Hollywood film given a release date is Disney/20th Century Studios' Death On The Nile, which will be released on Saturday. Uncharted, from Sony, is likely to be allowed, but that has yet to be confirmed. Due to what amounts to an unofficial ban on Marvel for the past year, Spider-Man: No Way Home has yet to be dated. Despite this, the film has made over $1.8 billion globally without China.

According to reports, The Batman will be a rather dark film, with a PG-13 rating, unlike WB/Joker, DC's which was rated R and did not make it to China, and will be released in North America on March 4. Recently released DC films starring Ben Affleck, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League, made $95.8 million and $106 million in China, respectively. When the market was just starting to open in 2012, The Dark Knight Rises, starring Christian Bale, grossed about $53 million.

The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and his befuddled alter ego, as well as Lena Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Dano (Dano), a serial murderer who is infatuated with the Wayne family, teams up with the pair to take on the wicked Riddler (Dano). Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin is played by Colin Farrell, James Gordon is played by Jeffrey Wright, and Alfred Pennyworth is played by Andy Serkis.
