'Ghostbusters' Director Ivan Reitman Passes Away

The director of 'Ghostbusters' and 'Twins' was 75.

At the age of 75, Ivan Reitman, the filmmaker of Ghostbusters and Twins, died quietly in his sleep on Saturday. AP was informed of the news by his relatives.

“Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life,” children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman, and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement to the outlet.

The statement continues, “We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”

On October 27, 1946, in Czechoslovakia, Reitman was born, but at the age of four, he moved to Toronto. His family relocated to Canada, where he had already developed ties with a relative.

After producing Animal House for National Lampoon in 1978, he went on to make Meatballs a year later, which was his big break. As a result, he was able to gain roles as a producer and director on shows including Stripes, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Dave, Space Jam, and No Strings Attached.

The supernatural popular comedy Ghostbusters, which starred Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, who wrote the screenplay, as well as Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, and Annie Potts, was his biggest hit in 1984. Following Beverly Hills Cop, it was the year's second highest-grossing film.

The film was nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Original Song for Ray Parker's "Ghostbusters" and Best Visual Effects.

Five years later, he returned as director and producer for the sequel Ghostbusters II.

Ghostbuster: Afterlife, the third installment in the franchise, would take more than three decades to be released in 2021. Jason directed and Reitman produced the film.

Last year, he worked on A New Legacy, a film starring LeBron James, Don Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Zendaya, which starred LeBron James, Don Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Zendaya.

In September, Deadline disclosed plans for a sequel to Arnold Schwarzenegger's film Twins, titled Triplets, starring Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, and Tracy Morgan, who will play their long-lost sibling. To direct and produce, Reitman was assigned.
