Freddie Highmore, star of The Good Doctor, revealed that he secretly married in an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! that aired on Monday, September 27.
After Kimmel pointed to his wedding ring, the 29-year-old British actor stated he's married to "a very great woman now."
"Yes, I did marry. It's interesting; folks have been asking me if I'm married since I've started wearing this ring, so I figured I'd explain "According to Highmore. He revealed that his new wife is also British, but did not say how they met or who she is.
"I'm not going to jump up and down on the sofa on the talk show and express my excitement that way," he continued, referring to Tom Cruise's 2005 unplanned couch-jumping wedding announcement to Katie Holmes on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
"That's something I'm sure you do in America. But I'm as happy as a British person can be, and I'm married, so sure, I'm content "According to Highmore.
Highmore admitted that he was still getting acclimated to the "terminology" and vocabulary of marriage, noting that "a married guy" sounds "extremely old" and "my wife" sounds "quite possessive."
"We don't really utilize that yet," says the narrator, "but we just point to the rings and say, 'Here, look, form your own conclusions.'" Kimmel said, "Highmore said," to which Highmore replied, "Highmore said." "You'll have to loosen up a little bit.”
“We're still in the early stages. Thank you for your suggestions, "According to Highmore.
Finding Neverland in 2004 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005, in which he played the title character Charlie Bucket, are two of Highmore's other roles. From 2013 to 2017, he played Norman Bates in the horror series Bates Motel.
On the medical drama series The Good Doctor, he plays Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young resident surgeon with autism, who is presently in his fifth season.
