From next season, Paramount+ will broadcast live Premier League matches in Mexico and Central America.
From 2022/23 onwards, subscribers of ViacomCBS' SVoD in the region will be able to watch 380 live matches for three seasons as ViacomCBS seeks to expand Paramount+'s content offering beyond narrative and entertainment into sports.
Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama will receive Premier League coverage under the three-year agreement, while Belize and the Dominican Republic will have non-exclusive rights.
“Live sports are an important differentiator for our streaming service, and as we’ve seen in the U.S. and Australia, we are confident this will drive subscriber growth,” said ViacomCBS Networks International President Raffaele Annecchino.
CBS Sports broadcasts local market NFL and college football games in the United States, while Paramount+ broadcasts Australian Football, including the A-League, England's FA Cup, and FIFA World Cup qualifications.
Next year, Paramount+ will debut in key markets such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, and Italy.
Streamers in the United States are definitely eager to use huge sporting plays as differentiators. Amazon Prime has been streaming Premier League football and American football. For a long time, open tennis has been played in key markets.
