Fetty Wap Sets Off Ankle Monitor, Arrested at Newark Airport

The "Trap Queen" rapper was then freed shortly after.

After setting off his ankle monitor at the Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday (December 17), Fetty Wap was apprehended by law officials.

According to TMZ, the "Trap Queen" rapper was photographed being brought away in handcuffs with a ski mask over his face after being detained in New York in October on federal drug charges. Police discovered Fetty had a warrant out for a "public nuisance" offense after he was captured. The rapper was arrested, but he was able to make bail and was freed shortly after.

On October 29, just hours before he was scheduled to perform at Rolling Loud New York, the FBI arrested Fetty. Over 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroine, fentanyl, and crack cocaine were allegedly distributed across Long Island and New Jersey, according to the allegations. After posting a $500,000 bond, he was issued his ankle monitor a few days later.

The United States of America issued a press release and mentioned Fetty Wap and his six associates were charged with "conspiring to distribute and possess controlled substances." Fetty Wap was classified as "a kilogram-level re-distributor for the trafficking organization" if convicted.

"The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a correctional officer as part of the conspiracy indicates just how disgusting the drug trade has gotten," said Michael J. Driscoll, assistant director-in-charge of the FBI's New York Field Office.

The 30-year-old rapper recently sat down for an interview with Fat Joe, in which he discussed why he hasn't been as successful since his meteoric rise to prominence in 2015.

“I felt like I had to do everything myself!” he said. “I put up all the bread for the tours. I paid for all the tour buses. Everything came out of my expenses. It was like, ‘I gotta pay y’all, but I’m paying for everything else!’”
