Jeff Bezos has issued a statement in response to the tragedy at the Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Billionaire Jeff Bezos has expressed his "heartbreak" over the deaths of at least six Amazon employees at a site in Edwardsville, Illinois, following a tornado that struck the area on Friday. After being chastised for posting about his latest Blue Origin space journey, Bezos thought on the tragedy on Saturday.
In a message on Twitter, he stated, “The news from Edwardsville is tragic. We’re heartbroken over the loss of our teammates there, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones.”
“All of Edwardsville should know that the Amazon team is committed to supporting them and will be by their side through this crisis,” he stated. “We extend our fullest gratitude to all the incredible first responders who have worked so tirelessly at the site.”
At 8:30 p.m. on Friday, a tornado struck Amazon's plant, which was in the middle of a shift change. While search crews sought to rescue them, at least 45 Amazon employees were stuck in the building for a lengthy amount of time.
During the storm, at least 70 individuals were killed throughout five states.
The Edwardsville Community Foundation will receive a $1 million donation from Amazon.
