Instagram To Reintroduce Chronological Feed as an Option in 2022

Instagram says it will happen early next year!

Users have been complaining about the numerous upgrades made to the photo-sharing app for years, or since it was purchased by Facebook. One notable change was Facebook's decision to eliminate Instagram's chronological order.

It appears that many people's prayers have now been answered. During a Senate subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri stated that "a variant" of the chronological timeline would return to the app next year.

He went on to say that the platform has been working on revitalizing the feature for "months" and that it will be released in the first quarter of 2022. On Twitter, IG's communications department issued a statement.

The chronological timeline was phased out in 2016 in favor of an algorithm-based timeline, which drew much criticism. Mosseri justified the choice, claiming that consumers were "losing 70% of all their postings in Feed, including nearly half of posts from their close relationships" if an algorithm wasn't used.

Before the announcement of the chronological timeline, Mosseri had announced in a video the new Instagram safety features, including "Take a Break," "Parental controls," and "Your Activity."
