Recently, DC has made a huge attempt to enhance its LGBTQ+ inclusion, with a number of well-known heroes coming out as gay. Tim Drake, for example, was recently revealed to be bisexual. Now, perhaps, a bigger step is being taken. DC's new Superman will also come out as bisexual in the upcoming Superman: Son of Kal-El #5.
Here's a quick rundown of Superman's recent comic book exploits if you've fallen behind. Following the Future State crossover event, Clark Kent's son Jonathan "Jon" Kent has taken over as the Man of Steel, and the Son of Kal-El series from writer Tom Taylor and artist John Timms explores how he copes with the burden of living up to his Kryptonian father's towering reputation.
However, the show also examines how Jon differs from his father. For example, the hero's 17-year-old relationship with fellow youngster Jay Nakumura is ready to blossom into a romance. This first-look image from the upcoming issue, which shows Jon and Jay giving in to their feelings and locking lips, was released by IGN.
The attraction between the two has been clear in earlier issues, so readers are unlikely to be surprised by this development. Jay is a hacktivist who, aside from Damian Wayne, has been Jon's first close buddy since he was a teenager. While he was unmoved by learning who Jon's father was, his mind was blown when he learned that his mother was famed journalist Lois Lane, his idol.
However, Jay will not be the Lois in his relationship with Jon, since Taylor has stated that Jay will never play the damsel in distress.
