Hailee Steinfield’s Dickinson series now has a season finale

Your favorite quirky American poet story is ending this fall season

Apple TV+ announced today that the Hailee Steinfeld lead series will come to an end with Season 3, which will premiere on November 5 on the streaming service. Here's a quick preview for what's to come.

Season 3 opens with Emily Dickinson (Steinfeld) in the midst of the American Civil War and a family feud that is just as violent. Trying to bridge the rifts in her community, Emily wonders if art can help keep the flame of hope alive and if the future will be better than the one we have now.

Wiz Khalifa reprises his role as Death and series regulars Toby Huss, Adrian Blake Enscoe and Anna Baryshnikov as well as Ella Hunt, Amanda Warren, Chinaza Uche and Jane Krakowski will all return. Ziwe, who is also a writer for the show, will play Sojourner Truth, Billy Eichner will portray Walt Whitman, and Chloe Fineman will portray Sylvia Plath among the new guest performers. Will Pullen and Zosia Mamet, who played Louisa May Alcott and Nobody, respectively, will return as well as other guests. Dickinson tells the audience in the trailer that "we mortals, we're only here for a brief time.". "I want to make a difference, something larger than fame." "I think poetry can be powerful," she says Death as they sit across from one other on a railway car. Death, on the other hand, grinned. Season 3 will begin on November 5 with the premiere of the first three episodes, with the remaining seven episodes following on Fridays.

Author and executive producer Alena Smith has a multi-year agreement with Apple TV+ and is working on a number of TV projects for the streaming service.

Emily Dickinson's significance and resonance in today's culture were highlighted when she set out to produce Dickinson, she said. This program has exceeded my expectations in every way. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Hailee and the rest of our talented, dedicated team to tell Emily's story. In the final season of Emily's coming-of-age tale, as she continues to struggle for her own lyrical truth while grappling with many of the challenges facing us today, I can't wait to share our epic finale with the world."

Three months before the start of season two in January, the program was renewed for a third season; however, it was subsequently revealed that the third and final season would be the show's final. Dickinson's third and last season is set to premiere on November 5, 2021, according to an announcement made in September by the show. There will be 10 episodes in total for the third season, and it will begin with three brand new episodes. There will be an episode released once per week until December 24. It's still unclear what will happen in Season 3, but the official description tells us that it will take place during the American Civil War:

It's during the American Civil War and a personal fight that Emily Dickinson is at her most active as an artist in the third season. Trying to bridge the rifts in her community, Emily wonders if art can help keep the flame of hope alive and if the future will be better than the one we have now. "I didn't realize that when I started creating a show about Emily Dickinson that we'd be living through a scenario that imprisoned people in their own houses," creator Alena Smith told TC of the pandemic's effect on the season three scripts. We were writing season three during the pandemic and I would say that experience undoubtedly influenced season three's writing," Smith stated.
